About

Rani ki Vav Stepwell

An 11th-century stepwell built as an inverted temple, seven storeys down, with over 500 principal sculptures. On the ₹100 note for a reason.

History & Background

Commissioned around 1063 by Queen Udayamati in memory of King Bhima I; silted over by the Saraswati river and only fully excavated in the 1980s.
